Yesterday we went to the NH Audubon McClane Center in Concord...what a place! Beautiful, lots of on-site animals...a top-notch learning facility. Actually, I have been very impressed with all of the NH Audubon locations and offerings. We'll be members as long as we're in this state!
Yesterday's class was a study on owls. The boys love owls, and they are one of my favorite animals, so this was a special day. After a 1 hour session learning about these raptors (they got to meet 3 residents of the McClane Center - a male and female Barred Owls, and a red Screech Owl), they headed to the lab where they dissected owl pellets, which are basically owl hairballs! But what the boys found in them was fascinating. Bones of mice, shrews, and lots of fur. It was a great learning activity to get them up close and personal with the life of an owl.
